Christ! First my copy of "Uphill Grind" was eaten by the VCR, forcing me to ride to "Muscle Breakdown", then I came up 9 minutes short on the workout, gasping for air. Next I scaled my hip extension weight back to 370 lbs. I must be getting old.

I've doing some base miles indoors plus weightlifting (last week at 450lbs) plus I did "No Slackers" Sunday. Very tough. It didn't seem like these spinervals videos were THAT hard last year. I must be getting old. I did ok, though I wasn't going that hard during the first set, but I had to sit up for a 1/3 of a rep during the last set.

I did back-to-back training rides! They were short, 30 minutes each, but high intensity, with a 2 mile TT on Tuesday in 5:55 (my best?) and a spinervals video Wednesday at around 140 watts. I lifted with 450 lbs again but reduced the reps to 20. The weather is warmer, I might have to ride today, otherwise my schedule calls for 2 days off. Should get out onto the road next week.

It's been two weeks since I posted and I HAVE been training. I continue to do a spinervals on Saturdays and ride on Tu, Wed, Thur and Sun as well. I am up to 450 lbs on the hip extension machine, doing 25 reps. I finally got on the road last Saturday. I took the newly built fixed gear out to see how it fit and got in 25 miles. It was very windy and i managed fairly well with the 39x17 and felt pretty good. I have been doing some longer indoor rides of up to 2 hours. I have been doing some more sustained higher HR rides (still below AT though). This week I will try back to back intervals rides, probably a 2 mile TT on Tuesday and a spinervals on Wednesday. I want to be fast when the outdoor campign begins without overdoing it.

The weather has kept me from getting to the Y, so my lifting has slowed down, but I've been riding. I've done "Have Mercy" and "Sufer-O-Rama" and some tempo work. Have Mercy was very hard (almost 2 hours). I started lifting again this morning (400 lbs on the hip extension machine). Overall, I'm still taking a laid back approach to the start of the season.
