Frank's Web page

I stopped posting last year because I thought that I was pretty much over the hill and training didn't make sense, but I seem to be faster than ever, so I'll start it up again.

The Wednesday night ride has been my yardstick. Early in the year I struggled to keep up, but along about Late July or early August I started to stay with the group, and now I am riding with ease. The pace is pretty high at just under 22 mph for 30 miles and I feel that we could do more. We managed 21+ after the HHH ride where we all nearly blew our brains out at 21.5 for 100 miles, coming in at 5:25 total time.

I'm not doing any formal training now. I was doing intervals once a week until a couple of weeks ago, but it's late in the year and time to start mellowing out. I'll ride in California in August and hopefully do some great climbs, then REALLY mellow out when I get back to Ohio late in the month.

I've decided to give up the Minster ride. It's nice to say that you rode with cat 2's, but they are just hurting me too much, and at 63 I don't have the motivation or strength to pull this ride off any more. I can save some gas too by not driving up there once a week. I'll also be doing the fixed gear once a week from now on as a recovery ride, and 2 rides a week with Terry at 14 or 15. That leaves Wednesday and Saturday for fast days and Friday for a rest day.

I got one TT in, a 10 miler. I was surprised that I went as fast as I did (26.39), as I have no clue about what HR to run. I settled in at around 155, but 10 years ago I was doing 170 and I can't have dropped that much. Well, enough for now. Hillmaster out.
